Animal Shelter Facts

Did you know that the number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year is estimated at 8 to 10 million? 

Please don't be fooled into thinking that animal shelters and pet rescues are filled with dog or cats that were 
discarded because they're "bad". Most shelter pets for adoption are wonderful companions who 
became the victims of family tragedy, unlucky circumstances or irresponsible owners. There are 
many wonderful pets out there who would love to become a part of your family.  

Responsible and trustworthy shelters will tell potential owners up front if there are possible
problems with the pet. For example, you may learn that a dog prefers to be the only dog in the family 
or a dog may not do well with small children.
