Animal Shelter Facts
Did you know that the number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year is estimated at 6 to 7 million? Of those animals entering shelters approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.
Please don't be fooled into thinking that animal shelters and pet rescues are filled with dog or cats that were discarded because they're "bad". Most shelter pets for adoption are wonderful companions who became the victims of family tragedy, unlucky circumstances or irresponsible owners. There are many wonderful pets out there who would love to become a part of your family!
Responsible and trustworthy shelters will tell potential owners up front if there are possible problems with the pet. For example, you may learn that a dog prefers to be the only dog in the family or a dog may not do well with small children.
